Inle Lake – inspiring our collection of mother of pearl button flowers
Inle Lake in Shan State, Myanmar, is serene and stunning. Fringed by hills, marshes and rice paddies, this 13.5 mile lake is home to the Intha people who live in stilt houses that hover over the lake. Buddhist pagodas rise up from the waters and floating gardens laden with tomato plants drift by. On the horizon are fisherman, rowing their canoes by standing up and wrapping their legs around the oar.
All this could be inspiration behind our Inle Flower Collection, but it is the fields of floating lotus flowers that have captured our imagination. Here the lotus stems are cut and the fibres extracted to make thread which is then weaved into a beautiful silk-like fabric.
