Yangon – the inspiration behind our carved buttons

Yangon is Myanmar’s largest city – pulsating with change and opportunity.  It is the heart of the country and was the capital until Nay Pyi Taw was built by the previous government.

Yangon is in a conundrum.  It has been bombarded by an influx of creativity and modernity since Aung San Suu Kyi came into power with high rise condominiums being built, a flood of foreign investment and new businesses opening up.   But the heart of Myanmar’s history still lies within the city – with the majestic Shwedagon Pagoda gleaming on the skyline and the historic quarter with the largest number of colonial era buildings in Asia standing proud.

It is this crash of tradition and modernity which is sparking innovation.   And this is the spirit behind our Yangon Carved Collection – taking a traditional mother of pearl shell and carving it into something spectacular.
